My snakes

I drew 3 of the snakes I own. I painted them in a pile, looking around. The background is just random. I used blue, purple, and black; colors that mix well together. Each snake has their own pattern. Pinks, browns, black, yellow and gold, with blue and grey eyes, each snake is different.
Color, contrast, form, proportion, and emphasis are some of the elements and principles I used in my snake painting. I made the background completely different colors so I could put emphasis on my snakes. They all have their own specified pattern that each consists of different colors. Each snake is around the same size, so I tried to make them each proportional to each other.
I've always wanted to have a painting of one of my many animals, but commissions can cost a lot of money and I don't have that kind of money. I knew how to draw and I needed to practice my painting skills anyways so I did. They are always piled on top of each other and I thought it was adorable so I painted them in a pile as well.
I am not entirely satisfied with this painting, but it's good for my first time at drawing snakes. I like how they turned out. The problem was the canvas I used. It was entirely meant to blend colors, so the background is scratchy in a way. It's not blended well. Because the canvas doesn't blend, I decided not to shade or add value.

Under the Sea

Here I have an acrylic painting of a dragon underwater. Unfortunately, it is not finished, but it's close. The dragon is white with a purple belly. Here ears and spikes down her back would've been a purple too. I've shaded this painting as well. Highlights are another thing that need to be added.
I've used value, color, and shape as my elements. I used shape and color to make the dragon pop out more than a sketch would. Value is used to show form and where the placement of light is. Proportion, balance, and emphasis and my principles. My dragons body is proportional to her head and so forth. I tried putting emphasis on the dragon by making her a different color than the water.
A small story goes with my underwater dragon. She's actually pregnant. She's watching her stomach and has her hand over it because the baby was kicking so she's comforting him. Any day now she'll have her baby, so she's hiding in the water for safety from bigger dragon predators.
I really like this painting. This was my first acrylic painting and I think I did pretty well. I like how I added value and the colors I used. She love how her pregnant belly turned out and overall, there's nothing I'd change about it [except finishing it].

Distorted Giraffe

This giraffe is from a project base on distortion. I wanted to draw a distorted animal but also keep the image and beauty of the animal noticeable. I did not draw the body of the giraffe because the canvas was only 4x4 and I can't draw that small. I drew her with a big anime eye and curly hair. I kept all the normal characteristics of a giraffe as well; such as the horns, two ears, and a long muzzle and neck.
I added in both elements and principles. I shaded, adding value and contrast. I also made defined lines to keep the shape of the animal more noticeable. Balance is kept as well. No color though, only value with a grayscale.
This piece doesn't have a background story to it. She is just a distorted giraffe.
I think this piece is okay. It's not my favorite but I think the giraffe is cute. It took me many trials and errors to get the right distorted shape and that turned out nice.

Ice Dragoness

This dragoness is something I came up with on my own. She has two wings and a set of horns on her head. She's a four legged dragon. I drew her with her eyes closed, a long tail, and a long neck. She is not colored in either.
My main element used is line. There is no color or value. I did use a couple principles. I created an pattern with her spikes running down her back and tail. Since there is an equal amount of objects/art on each side of my paper, balance is used. Proportion, my dragons body parts are dilated to compliment each other
My Ice Dragoness has a small story. I love dragons and the first thing that came to my mind was that I wanted to draw one with a graceful look. So I drew her standing tall like she's a queen. I didn't add color because I wanted others who saw her to picture whatever color they saw fit.
I absolutely love this piece. If there was one thing I'd change, I would attempt to add scales for texture. And the feet, I wish I could've drawn them better. But overall, I like the pose and style I used.

Masterpiece Interpretation

My masterpiece interpretation is based off of Starry Night by Van Gogh. I changed and added many objects, as I took an Alice in Wonderland take on it. The once crescent moon is in a pocket watch missing all its numbers. The numbers are spread all through out the painting. The wind like swirls carry the Queen of Hearts soldiers. A top the cypress trees lies the mad hatters hat; the white rabbit is hidden in the bushes by the village on his way to his rabbit hole.
I used both principles and elements. Balance is demonstrated in this painting, with movement on both sides. I attempted to display texture with multiple brush strokes using the same color in different shades. Color is my most used element. I used a wide variety of colors and shades, using multiple or a different color in every brush stroke.
Van Gogh's art style was Impressionism; I attempted to keep this style while my mind interpreted his painting. I themed Van Gogh's, Starry Night, to fit the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland. I took the white rabbits pocket watch and made it the moon but, I took out the numbers. The watch numbers are hidden in the stars in the sky, this is to show that the white rabbit has no sense of time because he's always late. The white swirls in the sky in Van Gogh's painting, I think of as wind. I placed the Queen of hearts card soldiers in the swirling wind to show that they are watching over all of the Queens palace, or village, in Van Gogh's painting. The white rabbit is on his way to his hole that leads back to wonderland, Alice is nowhere to be seen.
Personally, I love how I interpreted this piece. Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies and I feel it fit Van Gogh's mysteriousness well. I took my time on this painting and would not change anything about it.

Den galen kanin

The mad rabbit is my fairytale illustration project. This project was meant to be portrayed how I see a certain character. I chose the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Similar to the mad hatter, I see the white rabbit to be a bit crazy or insane, as in he's not all there. I tried to portray his craziness in his eyes and his smile. He points to his stop watch just as he does in the movie because he's running late. I also made him gray instead of white to show his darker side. This piece is done in watercolor pencils.
I did use value a lot here. I made the light source in the upper left corner, this allows more shadows to be done on his backside and lower part of his body. Color is a good point, too. This image has no blank space because it was all colored and shaded in. His eyes are even colored a very light red (which turns out pink). The emphasis is more on his face because that's where his insaness is portrayed but I don't think people pay the most attention there. To be broader, emphasis is put towards the entire rabbit.
I chose a bunny because I feel that they are one of my strong suits when it comes to drawing. I specifically chose the white rabbit because the idea I had for him was the best one I had compared to other characters.
The one judgement I have for this piece is the value/shading. It was my first time using water color so I wasn't sure how to go about it. I messed up on his hands and shaded them too dark.

Svart och vitt

Svart och vitt is my Ink Printing project. It is a bunny, in a patch of grass, on the night of a full moon. The board I used was white and I wanted the ultimate color that contrasted with white, so I chose black. Plus, black is one of the colors that represents night. I used cardboard to make the design, then painted that design and stamped it onto the white board.
Contrast is used between the two colors, black and white. I used lines to make the background and color for the ink. I wanted to emphasize on the bunny, white is why there isn't much going on in this picture. I made very little grass and the moon is quite small so that the bunny would be noticed more. There is balance, too. You can tell there is balance because when you split the image in half, there is an equivalent amount of actions happening on each side.
I drew a bunny because it was the first thing that came to my mind and rabbits are one of my favorite animals. I was going to make it a rabbit with floppy ears, but you would be able to tell what the image is if I did that. I gave him a little tuft of hair on his head because it's adorable. I drew him standing on his hind legs looking around for predators. I thought this pose was very easy to distinguish which is why I drew it.
I wish that the paint was more refined, as in not a bunch of random strokes everywhere. The paint got kind of messy and it smeared a bit in places, [such as the moon], although it looks natural, I wish it didn't happen. Other than the in smearing a bit, I absolutely love this piece.
